  • Ayreon - "Transitus" Released 09/25/2020

This listener is not an original Ayreonaut. I was introduced to Ayreon in 2000 with the "Universal Migrator", and have since added everything Arjen Anthony Lucassen has touched to my music collection ever since. My first impression was this sounds like BBC science fiction theme music would sound if Pink Floyd did it. Of course it goes far deeper than that. Lucassen is a fusion master who creates cinematic and theatrical themes combining the elements from multiple genres, primarily fusing pop, rock, metal, with prog openly paying tribute to his influences. Transitus is no different. Featuring Tom Baker (The Forth Doctor) as the narrator. The album takes us on the journey to 1884 where forbidden love is challenged by class, greed, envy, prejudice, death, and deception. The album plays like dark musical. For anyone who has seen a Trans–Siberian Orchestra concert it is thematically similar. With Narration between each of the songs. Similar to Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of "The War of the Worlds" or The Nolan and Wakeman "Hound Of The Baskervilles." Ayreon's "Transitus" is the featured Artist and Alum this week on Rush Radio.
